What do we Value?
The Lordship of Jesus. Perhaps an obvious answer, but without Jesus at the centre of everything we do, we might as well pack up and go home. Jesus is Lord of the church, he is the risen and living Son of God. We bring our highest devotion to him in worship.
God’s Presence. Seeking the leading and power of the Holy Spirit for all we are and do. We want to be where he is, equipped and inspired by him, changed by him and led by him. We will pursue him with passion.
The Bible as the revealed Word of God. The Bible is God’s word, containing an inspired diversity of literary styles that stand with eternal authority. Jesus, the Living Word, speaks to us through the Bible. We count it a privilege to have free access to the Bible and our teaching is based firmly in the Bible.
Relationships. None of us wishes we had spent ‘more time in the office’. God loves good relationships, He loves it when we spend quality time with him and with each other, whatever our backgrounds and interests. He loves it when the church invests in restoring and strengthening relationships in our community. He loves it when we support others and care more for other people than ourselves.
Involving everyone. Everyone has God-given potential to serve and worship Jesus - it’s not just up to the minister and staff! Thankfully we are all different and every person is needed in the mission and work of his church. We believe it’s important to help train and release everyone to fulfill their potential.
Getting Out More. We are desperate to see our community transformed by Jesus’ love and saving grace. We believe it’s important not to be constrained by our four walls, seeking instead to take the love and saving grace of Jesus to people wherever they may be. We want to actively demonstrate Jesus’ love, 24/7.
A worldwide focus. Billions of people live in poverty, under oppression and suffer injustice. We realise we cannot solve all the world's problems but we are determined to help where we can and not forget them.
We believe in:
The Trinity. The unity of God in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Jesus. Jesus is the eternal Son of God who was born into this world of virgin birth, was crucified, raised to life and ascended into heaven. He will return again in person and glory.
Grace. The human condition is corrupted by sin (attitudes and behaviour that go against God’s holy standards). We cannot do anything to save ourselves - no amount of good work is enough. We are saved by God’s grace alone, by Jesus having taken the punishment for our sin on the cross, an act of immense, infinite love. Having no sin of his own, Jesus defeated death and was raised to life. We, too, can receive new life, forgiveness and restoration from our corrupted state by believing in Jesus in faith, asking for his forgiveness (which he gives freely) and being determined to turn away from our selfish attitudes and behaviour.
The transforming power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit draws us to God, he dwells within us, transforming us to be more like Jesus, producing a life that is obedient to God.
Eternity. This life is temporary, but our decision to accept Jesus as our saviour or not will have eternal consequences as God will judge all of us. We have new life in Jesus if we believe in him, being redeemed from sin and death and will remain and reign with him in eternity. Those who reject Jesus will not.
Biblical authority. The divine inspiration and authority of the Bible, which provides all we need to know for faith, action and attitude.
The Church. The church is Jesus’ idea and his means of bringing the message of hope to the world. Jesus is Lord of the church, the local church is responsible to him alone as its head. The local church should seek constant renewal by the Holy Spirit for divine inspiration in 1) worship, giving God our highest devotion, 2) community, building Christ-centered lives together and 3) witness, taking the love of Jesus to friends, family, community and the world
